Even in a seemingly colourless winter, the European Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) adds a splash of red to gardens, parks and cities. Although their inquisitive nature leads them to be relatively unafraid of people, robins can be quite twitchy and will fly off at the slightest provocation. This particular robin flitted around the rose garden in Hyde Park, pausing here and there before settling on this particular branch – staying there for just long enough for a careful approach and a photograph.
