Machair Riot

Machair Riot

Machair is a habitat unique to the western side of Scotland and Ireland; found between the sandy beaches and the boggy moor, it provides a fertile and well drained soil. It bursts into a riot of colour in the short summer months, gradually moving from a field of yellow through pink to a mosaic of blue flowers by the end of the season. Home to a huge variety of wildflowers, birds and insects, the machair is a truly special habitat.
