The brilliantly coloured Red Macaw (Ara macao) appeared to be in a bit of a huff, turning its back on the people wandering past the enclosure. Though this displayed the magnificent array of bright tail feathers, it was the eye that I wanted to capture. Eventually, after quite a wait, the head turned round to survey the surroundings for a brief second and during this the Macaw stared directly at me. So taken was I by the stare that I almost forgot to press the shutter.
