Always have your camera with you – that's the rule. Because when you do, you can photograph interesting subjects that you just happen stumble across. Such as this fern (Pteridophyta spp.), which I saw in the car park of the SYHA hostel in Fort William, Scotland.
It's the unrolling of the ferns, both in the branches and the leaves, that I really like in this image. It's such a seemingly random shape for the plant. The rest of the fern gives the wonderful green background, into which the branch of the fern slowly disappears.
