Whilst the tail is the most remarked upon feature of the Peacock (Pavo cristatus), the iridescence of the male’s feathers is another stunning aspect of the plumage. This gaudy male was strutting his stuff, though due to the absence of a receptive female he was not willing to show off the huge fan of tail feathers.
Peacocks also have a reputation for being extremely noisy birds. So noisy that they can be used as guards, since they make an absolute a racket when they come across strangers.
