The lovely thing about the Anna Eighty-eight (Diaethria anna) is that it’s easy to identify; the red markings help it to stand out and – of course – the clear ’88’ on the underside of the wings. This butterfly was photographed in the Cusuco National Park in Honduras, but is commonly found throughout Central and South America.
Near the edge of the campsite sat this blue bucket, containing highly chlorinated water; as the heat of the day evaporated the water, it was the salt that was left down the sides that attracted this butterfly.
